    About this Doctor

    Dr. Neelofar Ghaznawi is a board- certified ophthalmologist and cornea and external disease specialist. Her goal as a practitioner is to keep her patients well informed, and to work with them to develop a treatment plan best suited to their individual needs. Dr. Ghaznawi is board certified from the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of professional organizations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and Women in Ophthalmology.

    Dr. Ghaznawi was raised in Elmhurst, Queens and attended P.S. 102 and I.S. 73 for her elementary schooling. Growing up, she spent her weekends at the Elmhurst branch of Queens Public Library, which always included a stop at local favorites Gino's Pizzeria and Dubois Bakery. She is so excited and honored to return to Elmhurst to establish her practice and serve the members of her community.

    Dr. Ghaznawi attended medical school at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, where she graduated with the highest honors, Alpha Omega Alpha. After receiving her MD degree, Dr. Ghaznawi subsequently completed a residency in Ophthalmology at the highly competitive program at New York University. Following her residency, in order to gain specialized training, Dr. Ghaznawi completed her fellowship program at the Wills Eye Institute in cornea and external disease, the highest ranking Ophthalmology Program according to U.S. News and World Report.

    Dr. Ghaznawi provides exceptional general and specialized ophthalmic care. Dr. Ghaznawi specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of conditions of cornea. Her special interests include severe dry eye (keratoconjunctivitis sicca), inflammatory conditions of the lid and conjunctiva (blepharoconjunctivitis), and infectious diseases of the cornea. Dr. Ghaznawi has authored publications on Herpes Zoster Ophthalmicus, endothelial keratoplasty techniques, and surgical treatment of anterior corneal pathology.

    Dr. Ghaznawi performs a range of cornea and refractive surgeries. She specializes in the implantation of astigmatism and presbyopia correcting intraocular lenses. Dr. Ghaznawi also employs the latest techniques in vision correction surgery. Dr. Ghaznawi performs many office based procedures in the treatment for corneal diseases as well.

    Dr. Ghaznawi is currently an assistant clinical professor at Mount Sinai Medical System. She has a long history of working with training physicians and was awarded the Abraham Schlossman Surgical Teacher of the Year in 2011.

    Dr. Ghaznawi lives in New York City, and is raising her two daughters with her husband and the family cat, Pebbles.

    Important Safety Information

    The EVO Visian ICL Lens is intended for the correction of moderate to high nearsightedness. EVO Visian ICL and EVO Visian TICL surgery is intended to safely and effectively correct nearsightedness between -3.0 D to -15.0 D, the reduction in nearsightedness up to -20.0 D and treatment of astigmatism from 1.0 D to 4.0 D. If you have nearsightedness within these ranges, EVO Visian ICL surgery may improve your distance vision without eyeglasses or contact lenses. Because the EVO Visian ICL corrects for distance vision, it does not eliminate the need for reading glasses, you may require them at some point, even if you have never worn them before.

    Implantation of the EVO Visian ICL is a surgical procedure, and as such, carries potentially serious risks. Please discuss the risks with your eye care professional. Complications, although rare, may include need for additional surgical procedures, inflammation, loss of cells from the back surface of the cornea, increase in eye pressure, and cataracts.
